Mallorca, the “Mediterranean pearl” as it is known, belongs to the Balearic Islands and is located 60 miles from the coastline of mainland Spain.

With an area of 3,640 sq. Km., it is the largest island of the complex – its name derives from the Latin island of Major.

Since the 1960s and flagged the triptych of “Sun, Sea, Fun” has begun to attract a significant number of visitors and has quickly become a synonym for mass tourism.

The marvelous, mainly architectural attractions, the endless miles of exotic beaches with palm trees, picturesque villages, windmill plains, impressive mountains, and the wild nights with the cosmopolitan parties promise the visitor everything he would like from the summer holidays.

Palma de Mallorca

The capital, Palma de Mallorca, is essentially the only town on the island. Stylish and vibrant, it combines exceptional cultural heritage with a cosmopolitan air, enchanting visitors.

The port of Palma is dominated by the La Seu Cathedral, one of the largest in Europe. It is an impressive 14th-century building, with towers, obelisks, columns, which seem to be lost in the sky, and window frames that shine in the sun.

The pulse of Palma hits the historic center, the “Old Town”, which starts from the port and extends to the north. It is an attractive blend of lavender and paved narrow gothic churches and baroque palaces that create the impression that in some corner a melancholy tower will comb her hair on the balcony waiting for her knight to appear.

The city has many bars and restaurants full of tourists. Palma de Mallorca is also very popular of its parties that attract so many visitors.

The eastern side of the island is an impressive area, consisting of hundreds of small bays extending from Cap de Ferruxt, near Cala Ratjada in the north, to Punta Negra, the westernmost tip of the island.

During your stay here, you should definitely visit Porto Cristo, a beautiful seaside town that hosts the famous Dragon Cave, with stalagmites and stalactites in unique shapes.

Find out more here

To the south, from Port d’Alcudia to Ca’n Picafort dominate the enchanting beaches that made it famous all over Europe …

The ‘Pink city’ of France is the fourth largest city in the country, after Paris, Marseille and Lyon.

Toulouse was named by the locals because of the pink bricks of the houses stretched out on the banks of the River Garonne. Built like a medieval fairy tale, it is adorned with emblematic monuments that impress the visitor.

The idyllic state in the heart of the historic area of Languedoc offers idyllic holiday moments and special tastes. Local specialties include local sausages, cassoulet and beef pork.

It is worth visiting the Capitol on the central square, which is also the trademark of the city. It is located in the central square of Toulouse and is built in a neoclassical style with its characteristic pink brick.

Château d’Eau is also close to the Pont Neuf Bridge, Saint-Etienne Cathedral and Cité de l’espace, an astronautic exploration park.

The city hosts the Airbus facilities where you can see how to make the most modern aircraft in the world.

Toulouse has also many students, nearly 100.000, the third student city in France with regards to population, after Paris and Lyon.

Last but not least, Toulouse has two Unesco Word Heritage Sites, the Canal du Midi (designated in 1996) and the Basilica of St. Serning (desginated in 1998).

It is built on the stunning bay of Boca Kotorska and stands out for its lacy shores and imposing medieval walls.

Traditional cobbled streets, Venetian palaces and fairy-tale atmosphere make up the old town, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Surrounded by labyrinthine walls and has three entrances, the Central Port of the Sea, the North Gate of the River and the South Gate Gurdic.

To admire the view from the castle you will have to climb 1,350 steps and be at a height of 280 meters. The Portal of the Sea has been protecting the San Marco lion for centuries.

Below it is the relief of Virgin Mary with the Infant being surrounded by Saint Tryphon, the patron saint of the city and St. Bernard. The tower of the clock has been standing since 1602 and will be in front of you as you pass the Gate.

At Arms Square, the largest in the city, you can start exploring the cliff-top of the cliffs.

Many of the buildings have a variety of architectural features such as the Roman baroque in the arches due to the different influences from the Venetians and the Byzantines.

At the Drago Palace, the Gothic Window of the 15th Century houses the Institute for Conservation of Cultural Monuments, while the Gurgurin Palace dating back to the 17th century today houses the Maritime Museum.

Renaissance and baroque elements make up the Bizanti Palace and Pima Palace. It is worth visiting the most important cathedral of the city which is dedicated to Saint Tryphon and dates back to 1166.

All in all, a place that you certainly have to visit!

First of all, you can reach Bansko by road from Sofia in about 2 hours and 15 minutes. The route is easy and the roads are in good condition, you enter the direction towards Blagoevgrad and when you get there it is about half an hour further.

When you arrive at the town of Bansko, there are two directions, one leading to the ski lifts and one leading to the center of the town. It is also worth visiting the town’s center because it is really beautiful. Graphic, paved alleys, traditional houses and the river that crosses Bansko make the scenery so pleasant.

There are traditional taverns and cafes throughout the center to make a pleasant stop. There are also many gift shops, clothes, jackets, leather products, sweaters in very economic prices. It is also worth trying the ‘Rose of Bulgaria’ beauty and care products, which are local and very good for the skin.

Walking the road starting from the city center called Pirin Street, you will end up in the ski resort at some point. That is really another world. Hundreds of skiers with their snowshoes and their boards are waiting for the lift to get them to the top. For those not so advanced, next to the lift there is a slope where they can make some skiing without having to climb up the mountain.

Outside the ski lifts, there are really dozens of cafes, bars, casinos and very good hotels, all luxurious.

Information about the ski lifts and ski slopes: https://www.banskoski.com/en

It is also worth seeing the following in the area:

The well-known “Pirin National Park” is an area of unique beauty full of lakes, waterfalls and caves. Unesco has designated it as a “World Heritage Site”.

The city of Banya with its renowned spas. Choose the central Rimska Banya facility and with 7 euros (15 leva.) You can enjoy the hot springs and other alternative ways of relaxation all day long.

The town of Razlog, perhaps the most beautiful in the area, with the river crossing most of the city while the big pedestrian streets are offered for relaxing walks. Drink a cappuccino in the central square for only 1 euro and relax.

There are many hotels in the area. You can either stay in the center on Bansko or at the luxurious hotels outside the lift area. One nice option is the hotel ‘Hermes’ that is really near the city center but still in a quiet and peaceful area.

Another option is to find a hotel in a nearby area such as the area of Betolovoto, we would recommend The Balkan Jewel Hotel, a 4 star hotel with all the appropriate facilities for a really pleasant stay. More information here

All in all, it is sure that you will have a pleasant time in Bansko, so just book a flight to Sofia, rent a car and let the adventure begin.

December once again casts a spell on us, Christmas is approaching with hurried steps and our souls are just waiting to be filled with the magic of holidays.

Each one of us can hardly wait to see the Christmas lights and to fall in love, again, with our beautiful Christmas tree. We’re eager to receive and to give gifts, to play in the snow and have a cold nose. Regardless of our age … we are all children on Christmas.

Considering this, we know you’re excited to visit the world and know the traditions of each country. I’ve prepared, therefore, a list of five unusual places in Europe – they will take your breath away!

Have a Wonderful Time in Graz, Austria

This city knows how to offer you exactly what you need for Christmas. It has an entire “collection” of Christmas shops, full of gifts and traditional dishes. Of course, in the same area, you can also find their wonderful Christmas tree! It has a lot of lights and it delights tourists every year!

If you want to see something special, we recommend visiting the ice sculpture at Landhaushof.
The capital of Hungary consisted of three cities: Pest, Buda and Ombunta merged into one in 1873. It is located in the heart of Europe and its unique architecture combined with its natural beauty enchants the traveler.

Walks on the banks of the Danube, the Castle District, Heroes Square, Baroque monuments, Art Nouveau mansions and nostalgic cafes are an integral part of the trip.

It is worth visiting the Hungarian Parliament, the St. Stephan’s Basilica, the Fishermen’s Tower and the Margarita Island. The imposing bridges that crown the river offer a magnificent spectacle in the evening illuminated.

Budapest is also known for the famous thermal baths from the Roman and Ottoman times, with 30,000 cubic meters of thermal water spilling into the heart of the city.

The city has more than 200 caves in its viscera that are open to the public, especially as the summer naturally cool residents and visitors.

It is the third most popular destination of Sporades in Greece, after Skiathos and Skopelos, but it has nothing to jealous of any of these two beautiful islands. We are talking about Alonissos, the small green diamond of Magnesia that steals the heart of the visitors from the first moment.

Its area is larger than that of Skiathos, however, its residential part is only a very small percentage of its territory, which is limited mainly to Patitiri, its picturesque harbor and to the Old Town, which is on a hill with spectacular views, while the population does not exceed 3,000 inhabitants.

The beaches of the island are many and with great beauty. Typically, if a traveler stays on the island throughout the summer there will be a beach to discover every day! The most famous of them is Chrissi Milia, the idyllic oasis with fine sand and crystal clear water that is also offered for water sports.

Equally impressive and organized, is the beach of Agios Dimitrios, which is considered to be the most beautiful beach on the island. It occupies a large area on both sides of a small peninsula. Also, the White Gialos with the small pebble is the most suitable choice for the younger age as it has a beach bar with a DJ choosing the best dance music of the summer.

The evening life on the island of Alonissos is located mainly in Patitiri with many places of entertainment and in Old Chora.

Specialtie of the island is the Alonissos typical cheese pie with feta cheese and crispy leaf, a delicious, tasty feast that no one ought to miss. However, the tourist character of Alonissos is not as intense as its natural, ecological character and is therefore a pole of attraction for friends of nature tourism.

The entire attitude of the locals moves around the protection of the environment, respect for nature and contact with it. On the island, you will find the International Academy of Classical Homeopathic Medicine and, with a little luck, will have the chance to swim next to dolphins and seals located in the sea park, the largest marine conservation site in Europe.

Regarding accommodation and transportation to the island, there are many lodgings both in the port and the smaller villages. The hospitality is of a high standard and the locals are polite and helpful.

One option is the 4-star Yalis hotel, with astonishing view and a swimming pool: http://www.yalishotel.gr/

and Ikion Eco Boutique Hotel: http://www.ikionhotelalonissos.com/

You can move from the harbor to the Old Town by public bus that runs frequently throughout the day, while a day trip is organized on one or two of the countless coach beaches starting at 9am and returning to the harbor at 4pm. There are also alternative travel choices, such as sailing boats to many beaches and hiking trails for fit buddies.

So, if you love nature and you are looking for a quiet destination with crystal clear seas and magical landscapes, what are you waiting for? Prepare suitcases immediately! Alonissos is waiting for you!

In Valletta, the capital of Malta, you will enjoy your walking around as it is forbidden for the cars to drive in the Old town.

You can spend a few hours to wander through its alleys, admire the beautiful buildings and enjoy the stunning views of Upper Barrakka Gardens. Enjoy their tranquility and beauty, cool in the fountains and listen to the canons at noon, which will remind you of the military past of the country. For the evening, now, choose one of the many wine bars with amazing local wines.

A must see when traveling to Malta is definitely an excursion to the island of Gozo by ferryboat, the second largest island in the Maltese archipelago. Mediterranean sandy beaches, picturesque hamlets and Gothic churches make up the scenery of this small island that looks like it sprang from the pages of a book. There you can visit the capital of Gozo Rabat, whose caves are said to have lived by the nymph Calypso. Alternatively, you can visit some of the cities in the south of the island, Kosikika, Sheglia or Vitoria.

Where to go

In Valletta, UNESCO World Heritage Site with museums, churches, galleries, shops, outdoor markets. Visit the Cathedral of St. John in which you will see the masterpiece of Caravaggio (Saint John’s decapitation).

In the beautiful old capital Mdina built as a fortress, the so-called “city of silence” that will travel you in time. You will walk on the paved streets and you will be impressed by the atmosphere, architecture and palaces.

In Mġarr for restaurants serving traditional rabbit stew and a taste of life in a village.

In Gozo for the architecture and the beauty of the landscape.

What to See

Malta’s Audio-Visual Experience

The Grand Masters Palace

The National Museum of Arts

The gardens over Barrakka

One good option is the Palace hotel, in the centre of Sliema with the roof garden and the pool (www.thepalacemalta.com).

You can also check out the Xara Palace, in Medina (www.xarapalace.com.mt)

In Valetta, the British Hotel, with the view to the Big Harbour, is also a nice hotel (www.britishhotel.com).

Shocking is the 163 or Amalfitana road with the spectacular view that leads to it and covers the entire length of the coast.

Since the 1960s, and alongside the nearby and most popular Capri, the Amalfi coast has evolved into one of Italy’s top tourist destinations but also a favorite place for both jet setters and couples looking for romance. Fortunately, because of the geomorphology of the area, tourist development was at a slow pace.

Therefore, it is still an earthly paradise that combines tranquility with cosmopolitan reputation: you will find quiet fishing villages next to cosmopolitan towns and secluded beaches next to lively and organized beaches.

In Sorrento, where Kazanova and Goethe were taking part, you will be impressed with the old villas on the hill slopes overlooking the emerald waters, Mediterranean gardens with olives and citrus, the lively cosmopolitan harbor where they breed expensive vessels and life in Coffee of Piazza Tasso, which was loved by both Nietzsche and Ipsen.

Positano is the most expensive and scenic area, a city with countless stairs and narrow streets, a settlement-terrace in the endless blue. Amalfi is the most popular proposal for a day trip from there and Ravello stands high up on the hill as if to watch what’s happening … Even Salerno, however, which plays the role of the transport hub, has a beautiful Old Town With narrow alleys.

Where to eat

In Positano, at Don Alfonso 1890 (Corso S Agata 11, tel .: +39 081 8780026) the organic materials come from the owner’s farm while the most famous dish is pasta with sardines, green peppers and oregano. (http://www.donalfonso.com/home.asp?lingua=ing)

In Amalfi, Caravella (Via Matteo Camera 12, tel .: +39 089871029) serves homemade pesto with anchovies, capers and lemon (http://www.ristorantelacaravella.it/?lang=en).

In Ravello, exciting dishes will be served at Rosselini, such as lemon sardines (Via San Giovanni del Toro 28, tel .: +39 089 818181) (http://www.palazzoavino.com/en/Dining/Rossellinis).

Where to stay

One relatively cheap and good option is to stay at the hotel: La Casetta Nel Bosco.
