Óbidos: An Endless Bookshop in The Portuguese City

Óbidos is a medieval city located 50 miles from Lisbon. This city used to attract tourist due to the annual chocolate and ginjinha festival.

Nowadays, the city has been transformed into a huge library, where historic landmarks have turned into bookstores.

One of the most characteristic example, is the Santiago Church that has renamed and now is “The Grand Bookstore of Santiago”.

Also, the old grocery market, now hosts cooking books.

It goes without saying that the city’s hotels follow the same example. The “Literary Man” hotel hosts about 40.000 books.

2015 was the year when UNESCO declared Óbidos as “The Literature City”, behind Dublin and Barcelona. A visit from the worldwide bookworms is a MUST.
